Proper Maintenance for Screen Doors

Screen Doors are Beneficial and functional if kept in very good condition. In this article, we’ll discuss the maintenance of your screen doors as well as a guide to check if your screen door already needs replacement.

Clean your Door!

It’s very important to clean your doors. Screen doors are supposed to be cleaned at least two times a month if you live in a temperate area like Tallahassee and at least once a month if you live in an urban area.

The first thing you need to do is remove it. Cleaning the door attached to the wall may damage its hinges. Its best to leave it lying on the ground.

Next would be vacuuming it. After removing the screen doors, vacuuming it will remove most of the dirt on the surface.

After you’re done vacuuming the dust and dirt built up on the screen, the next thing you will need to do is wash it. There are cleaning products specially formulated for screen doors. Be careful not to put too much pressure when scrubbing your screen.

Wait for it to dry before placing it back up. If you’re unable to remove your door from the hinge, you can still vacuum it but you will need to be careful while watering it down.

Be careful with your Mesh!

The Softer Mesh part of the door, usually removable is called an insect screen mesh. This part is very susceptible to damage and wear and tear. Using cleaning products can put it back into its clean state but be careful as it may also corrode the mesh along the way.

Take care of your Locks and Hinges!

The locks and hinges of your door are somewhat essential and usually is the most annoying part of every screen door. These parts are usually made of alloy or metal and overtime when corroded with a moist, humid or temperate atmosphere, its rusts. This causes the hinges and locks to make little annoying squeaky sounds when you open and close the door.

Lock maintenance requires lubricating the body of the lock with lubricating oil or silicone sprays. This also applies to hinges. Grime and dirt buildup usually sticks in the lock or hinge material that’s why it’s best to maintain it to avoid the screeching squeak noise the door is making.

Do your research on Proper Cleaning Materials!

It is very important to do a quick research when you’re looking for the right materials to use when cleaning your screen door. Vacuums and Sponges are available in a local hardware store.
